Mesut Özil will not return to play for Germany

German playmaker Mesut Özil said on Wednesday (January 27th) that he would “never” return to play for the German national team and in the Bundesliga, when he officially signed for Fenerbahçe in Turkey where he intends to relaunch his career. “When I take a path, I don’t turn around. I wish the German national team success, but never again, ”he said. Two and a half years after slamming the door of the Mannschaft after a virulent controversy linked to his Turkish origins for posing for a photo with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and after several months in the closet at Arsenal, Özil has officially signed for three and a half years in Fenerbahçe. Özil, born in Germany, got married in 2019 in Istanbul with a former miss Turkey, Amine Gülse. Her marriage witness was Mr. Erdogan. The player had been heavily criticized in Germany after posing with Mr Erdogan in 2018, shortly before the World Cup in Russia. Denouncing “racist” attacks, he decided to retire internationally after the World Cup in 2018.
