Juan Sebastián Muñoz will play the PGA Tour Tournament of Champions – Other Sports – Sports

The auction of 2019 and all of 2020 have been the best moment of the Colombian golfer’s career Juan Sebastián Muñoz. Since his first victory on the PGA Tour, the 2019 Sanderson Farms Championship, the Bogotano has not stopped growing and finished last season in the eighth box of the FedEx Cup, the second best appearance of a Colombian, after the second instead of Camilo Villegas in 2007.

Now, Muñoz benefited from a change in the PGA Tour regulations, due to the covid-19 pandemic. The first tournament of each calendar year is always the Tournament of Champions, in which only those who have won a tournament on the circuit in the previous 12 months play.

But this time, in addition, the PGA Tour gave them a place in the top 30 of the FedEx Cup, so the Colombian is ready to play.

The tournament will be played at the Plantation Course in Kapalua, Hawaii, with a purse of 6.7 million dollars in prizes, of which the winner will receive 1.34 million, in addition to 500 points for the FedEx Cup.

Last year, Muñoz had a good performance in this tournament: he was in the 17th box, with 289 strokes, 11 impacts behind the winner, the American Justin Thomas. Now he waits for another good week to continue rising at FedEx: today he is in box 46, with 254 points.

Thomas, number one in the world, Dustin Johnson, US Open winner Bryson DeChambeau and Spanish Jon Rahm, second in the rankings, head the list of 42 players who will be in the tournament.

World No. 1 Johnson, whose four wins in 2020 included a Masters triumph, plans to keep his foot on the gas in 2021. PGA Player of the Year, Johnson, captured his second major title in November at the Masters after winning the Tour Championship in September.

The 36-year-old American also won the Hawaii Champions event in 2013 and 2018. “I mean, I like to be the best,” Johnson said Wednesday on the eve of the Hawaii Tournament of the PGA Tour of the United States. “I want to continue the good game and I hope I can have a slightly better year this year.”
