Ice hockey – U20 just missed World Cup semi-finals – sport

The German ice hockey juniors just missed the semifinals at the U20 World Cup in Edmonton. Tobias Abstreiter’s team lost to Russia in the quarter-finals 1: 2 (0: 1, 0: 1, 1: 0). Florian Elias’ subsequent goal (44th) was not enough in the end.

The DEB selection held up well at the beginning of the game, but the team conceded the first goal (10th) in their own majority. The best chance from a German point of view had previously been Tim Stützle, who had the opportunity to equalize alongside Elias in the second third before Russia increased (29th). After Elias scored, the game remained tense until the end.

After losing to Finland (3: 5) and hosts Canada (2:16), the German team won the round of eight for the first time with victories against Slovakia (4: 3 after extra time) and Switzerland (5: 4) qualified.
