Félix Pérez, anniversary – Basketball

An institution very identified with basketball in our country is on its birthday: the Club Félix Pérez Cadozo. El Rojo de Villa Morra celebrates 68 years, founded on January 11, 1953.

The club is affiliated with the Paraguayan Basketball Confederation (CPB), with its First male teams and the female laureate, as well as a great seedbed of training, with several championships in various categories, to the pride of the institution.

Rubén González, son of Efigenio in whose tribute the sports center was named, is the current head of the club and referred to this date: “To thank and congratulate all the founders and their families who had the brilliant opportunity or decision in their lives to give the time to the club in its beginnings, both to found it and to keep it alive ”. He added: “To thank all the presidents who gave their time, family time, financially supported so that the club is as it is, and to all the leaders who are ultimately the club’s parent leaders, who have this category for their volunteering. This is a club, thanks to that it is a very different one from the rest, since it is the parent leaders who sustain and give life to the club. Also to all the athletes and physical trainers who were for the club, thank them and congratulate them on this anniversary, and finally to the companies that trust the institution and give us important support ”.

The leader Raimundo Cabrera also recalled the beginnings of the club, where “volleyball and cards were played, since there were other clubs around it, such as Gral. Genes and Recoleta. Luis Alberto del Paraná, Emiliano R. Fernández, among others, were the names that were analyzed to name the club. Then the name of Félix Pérez Cardozo was proposed, as he had died in Buenos Aires a couple of days ago and there was a total agreement in the assembly for the institution to be named that way. And our first president was Don Damaso Duré ”.

“Great events were held in addition to excursions, the biggest San Juan parties, the election of queens and famous groups at the time were forging the social life of the club. After a few years, basketball came and stayed forever. We were in the glory days with the women’s team that won several titles, 8 in a row from 1976 to 1983, ”said Cabrerita.

Félix Pérez was the first club to achieve the ministerial authorization of its health protocol to combat the contagion of the coronavirus to restart practices, not competitive, but in nuclei or bubbles and in these restricted times they lead in activities such as raffles of fantastic prizes for their associates in order to continue encouraging love and fidelity to its colors.
