Dele Alli rarely plays, Mourinho wants to emphasize himself the boss of Tottenham

Dele Alli lacked the opportunity to play when Tottenham Hotspur was taken over by Jose Mourinho. Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink considered it proof that no player can go around with Mourinho.

Mourinho started coaching Tottenham in November 2019 or to be precise in the 13th week of the Premier League season 2019/2020. Dele Alli at that time was still one of Mourinho’s main choices in midfield.

Dele Alli began to disappear since week 33 due to injury and returned to appear as a substitute in the last match last season. Since then, the 24-year-old midfielder has not had many opportunities to play this season.

Hasselbaink, who had experienced being coached by Mourinho at Chelsea, had experienced Dele Alli’s situation. The Dutch citizen considered Mourinho’s actions as a warning to players who felt great.

“Mourinho wanted to use me as an example, that’s how he managed it. He wanted to show that he could let go of big players. I was still the top scorer at the time, even though two very good strikers signed contracts that season,” Hasselbaink told the Daily Mail.

“Mourinho wants to show who the boss is, and I am the person he uses. Yes, Chelsea then won the league, but I changed teams at that time,” he continued.

“But Mourinho has always done that. He does it now with Dele Alli at Spurs. That’s how he manages, that’s how he is successful, you can’t blame him,” Hasselbaink insisted.

Apart from Dele Alli, there is Christian Eriksen who has also been pushed aside by Mourinho. The decision was made because Eriksen did not want to stay at Tottenham and was determined to change clubs, which eventually joined Inter Milan.
