Cuban Judo will start the year at the Qatar Masters ›Sports› Granma

Six of the Cuban judokas that are currently classified for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, led by the Olympic holder Idalys Ortiz (+78 kg), will compete in the Masters in Doha, Qatar, from the 11th to the 13th of this month .

Ortiz will be joined by Maylín del Toro (63 kg) and Kaliema Antomarchi (78 kg), while Iván Silva (90 kg), Andy Granda (+100 kg) and Magdiel Estrada (73 kg) will take part in the men’s squad.

The athletes will be joined by the main coaches Yordanis Arencibia, for the female, and Julio Alderete, for the male, and Dr. Uvelino Moreno, according to statements to Jit from the national discipline commissioner, Rafael Manso.

Currently, Idalys Ortiz leads the ranking in her category and, along with Iván Silva, number two, has secured her ticket for the five-ring event. Meanwhile, Del Toro maintains the fourth position, Antomarchi in the fifth, and Granda the ninth, all with options to access the Olympic tournament, while Estrada has his pass thanks to the continental quota.

For the Tokyo-2020 competition, to be held at the Nippon Budokan, 386 athletes are expected, 18 of them classified by each of the 14 divisions, that is, 252, plus one hundred by continental quotas, 14 by the venue and 20 guests .
