Covid outbreak at Varese Basketball, the match against Trieste at high risk

The coronavirus nightmare is back in Serie A. Basketball Varese has communicated 12 positive cases – 6 of which would be players under professional contract – after the quick swabs carried out on Friday evening in compliance with the FIP protocols 48 hours before the game against Trieste. Provisions are expected from Lega Basket regarding the dispute of tomorrow’s match, but a postponement of authority seems very likely, the first in the last 4 days after the series of slipped matches in November (the previous one had again involved Trieste on the occasion of the races at the beginning of December).

Thus the press release from the Lombard company:

Varese Basketball announces that, following the tests carried out this morning in anticipation of the departure for Trieste, twelve cases of positive Covid-19 have emerged within the Team Squadra. The red and white club has activated all the procedures foreseen by the protocol in force and immediately informed the competent authorities. The subjects, some of them mildly symptomatic, are already in isolation as per protocol.
Varese Basketball is awaiting the provisions of Legabasket regarding the match scheduled for tomorrow against Allianz Pallacanestro Trieste.
