CAF elections: FIFA gets involved!

New rebound in the election for the presidency of the African Football Confederation (CAF) which will take place on March 12 in Rabat, Morocco. Thursday, CAF announced that it had validated the applications Senegalese Augustin Senghor and Ivorian Jacques Anouma, gave a provisional green light to those of Mauritanian Ahmed Yahya and South African Patrice Motsepe, who will have to pass a grand oral, and failed that of outgoing president Ahmad Ahmad, declared ineligible in because of the 5 year suspension pronounced by FIFA against him. But this Sunday, the pan-African body announced that it will not be the only decision-maker in this matter since FIFA will also have a say.

«The CAF Governance Committee shall submit to the FIFA Control Committee the candidatures received for the post of CAF President, it being understood that the President of CAF is intended to become the Vice-President of FIFA.», Indicated CAF after its emergency committee. “The Governance Committee of CAF must determine, with the FIFA Control Committee, a date of formalization as soon as possible, of the final list of all the candidates for all the elections, namely: members of the Executive Committee, members of the FIFA Council and CAF President.»

This means that the hearings of Ahmed Yahya and Patrice Motsepe, scheduled for January 28 in Cairo, are highly likely to be brought forward.
