Bsquet Girona reinforces base position with silver Pedro Barral (Evreux)

The sudden return of Dani Garcia to Manresa, claimed by Pedro Martínez to play in the ACB, had weakened the basic position of Bàsquet Girona, a situation that must be corrected with the arrival of the Argentine Pedro «Pepo »Barral. The new reinforcement of Carles Marco’s team is 26 years old and has just lived his experience in European basketball, this same season, with Evreux of the French second division. There injuries have only allowed him to play two games of seven. International with his team, with which he made his debut a year ago, has spent the vast majority of his career in the Works, where for two years he coached Trifón Poch.

Barral, therefore, comes to complement Albert Sàbat. He is a base of 1.87 meters and 79 kilos in weight, whom in 2015 Poch defined as one of the best under-23 bases in the Argentine league. With the Works he made his debut in the elite in 2011 and played more than 350 matches, a record number. He was the captain and season after season, one of the leading scorers. This season he had the option of making the leap to Europe and accepted Evreux’s proposal.

He made his debut with the French team at the end of September, in a Cup match against Orleans Loiret (79-93 defeat, with 9 points, 2 assists and 7 rebounds in 30 minutes of play). He then played two more matches in the league, in a season where he has had several physical problems. Now he has the opportunity to taste the LEB Or, the Spanish second division, and recover the sensations that had made him stand out in the Argetnina.

The new Bàsquet Girona player will not be able to make his debut until Sunday 7 February, in Fontajau, against Granada. On Tuesday, in Alcant, he will not be there because at the time of playing this match they had not signed him yet. It will also not be possible to face Canoe in Madrid on the 9th. With the arrival of Barral, the squad closes, having suffered the departures of the loaned Aleix Font (Zaragoza) and Dani Garcia (Manresa), the injury of Àlex Llorca, and the arrival of Icelandic Kari Jónsson, in recent weeks.
