What kind of person will flexibility be remembered by us? His flexibility as a badminton player is well known. Although he received somewhat disappointing report cards at the two Olympics, he is a superstar who has maintained the No. 1 position in the men’s doubles world rankings with Yong-Dae Lee for many years. After the retirement of the national team, he continued to show interesting images at a number of events and continued active communication with fans. Even in 2020, when everything changed with Corona 19, the player who always showed a pleasant appearance in a number of video events is by far the flexibility.
Suddenly, he turned thirty-six in Korean age, and became one of the best players among badminton players. The word retirement naturally comes to mind, but flexibility still maintains one of the best men’s doubles skills in Korea. As a player, he was running towards the end, but his flexibility was preparing for another start. We may have seen only a fraction of flexibility yet to remember flexibility as a badminton player.

There are so many things that I want to do flexible, which is the representative entertainment of badminton!
How have you been these days?
As Corona 19 got worse, I couldn’t do much training normally. I trained a lot only before the game, and I usually spent time with my family at home to develop myself. I think he is living the same normal life as some of the fathers and mothers.
I think the baby must have grown a lot.
I am now 6 years old. During the last Olympics, a reporter guided him and many people know the child’s name as Yuri-woo, and his name is Yu Shion. Children also take online kindergarten classes at home. When I’m not exercising, I sit next to him and help my son take classes.
Isn’t your wife Japanese? What language does the child speak a lot at home?
Since I am in Korea now, I speak more Korean. Instead, I used more Japanese when I went to a Japanese cheogatjip before Corona 19. Kindergarten is an English kindergarten, so now they are teaching Korean, Japanese, and English alternately.
Flexibility Aren’t you good at foreign languages?
no. Japanese is objectively about the level of a student in the lower grades of elementary school. English is like a kindergarten student. I’ve learned English hard over the past two or three years, but it’s not increasing as much as I thought. I don’t know how to speak any other language. Learning English and Japanese is also difficult. When I was young, I thought a lot that I would have liked to learn more.
Is there any reason to stick to your current hairstyle? It seems to have been this style in recent years.
It seems to have been 4~5 years before the Rio Olympics. There is no big reason, and I wanted to try a different style, so I changed it slightly, but my wife says that this style suits you best. haha. I started with a style to cover it because my hair was thin, and it continues to this day.
The badminton elite culture has also changed a lot due to Corona 19 last year. Instead of disappearing international competitions, opportunities to communicate with fans through video are increasing in earnest. It was only three times last year that I met with fans through bold video events such as Yonex Super Match, Baco Olympics, Yonex Mix & Match.
When I heard the story, I heard that the badminton public facilities as well as the private gyms were all closed, so the hobbyists were also having a hard time. Our players are the same. It is a situation where you cannot train. In the current situation, it seems that it is a time when everyone should refrain from putting up with it. We are thinking of a lot of LAN events so that players can also give fans pleasure. If we endure each other little by little, we will overcome them and a good day will come.
Flexibility was the player who responded most to the video event. There are so many responses to comments such as’Flexibility is the most fun’. You seem to know how to give your hobbyists laughter and joy.
In fact, it’s a style that is embarrassed or embarrassed. It doesn’t suit me well because of my personality, flirting in front of others. However, since I am the best senior, it seems that junior players can’t do anything like that. I don’t think they are the players who deserve it. Somebody should
I did it because of a sense of responsibility. When I turn the camera with the thought of’I have no one else to do,’ I play a lot of exaggerated jokes.
It doesn’t fit well with my personality. I don’t like being exposed to the media very much. I also worry a lot. If you’re so busy and talkative, you’ll make mistakes. Then you will be cursing other people, but you hate to swear and curse. Fortunately, everyone looks good so far, so I keep doing it like I do now, but if I start to swear by someone, I don’t think I will do that in the future.
Are all the interesting situations momentary ad-libs, or are they prepared to some extent?
It is adlib that comes out moment by moment, but it is a style that always analyzes when looking at something. Even if you look at an entertainment program, try image training by substituting’How would I talk if I was in that situation?’ Since I’ve been thinking a lot like that, it seems like a momentary adlib comes out naturally. But it seems to be different from the actual battle. When I try to be funny, there are many times when there is no response. Still, if you do a lot of these video events, you will be able to show more interesting images.
Didn’t you say you don’t like media exposure?
Still, isn’t this our role? There will be badminton fans who want to see me, and I have to show them so that they can have fun. If the video is already more fun, our players need to work harder.
However, I know that sometimes there is a conflict, in relation to the badminton video, there are hobbyists who want to see the players playing seriously, or there are hobbyists who want to see the players laughing differently than usual. Satisfying everyone’s needs seems to be a difficult problem. When a video event is planned, players always worry a lot about whether to take it seriously or have fun. Even if you don’t meet any needs, I hope you don’t react badly because there are hobbyists who want different parts.
Instead, it would be nice if you could leave your opinion in the video with comments, etc. It would be very helpful if hobbyists gave their opinions on what direction to work out in the next video. I try not to get hurt, but I tend to pay a lot of attention. I want to collect various opinions because I want to do what the fans want. The players also see all the comments. It is good to leave your opinions, but I hope you will save any malicious content, abusive language and slander to the players. The players are also hurt a lot.
When did you wear glasses?
Since 2015. I used to go out in a game wearing lenses. My eyesight seems to have worsened a little while watching a lot of videos and books in self-development time these days.
What kind of video or book do you watch?
Read lectures or books on economics. I am most interested in the global economy. Athletes need to be prepared for retirement because the time when they can make money is limited. As a result, I naturally became interested in financial technology such as stocks and real estate, and I studied because a lot of things change depending on the economic situation and government regulations. These studies are fun. As I am interested in business, I find that stocks, corporations, and operations of a company seem to be all connected depending on how the economy works. Even when traveling by car, I am looking for and listening to economic lectures.
In a previous interview, I said that I would like to do badminton-related business after retirement.
Valid. I’m interested in business, but I keep thinking about doing badminton-related business if possible. There is still so much to do. Recently, I have been learning a lot and having fun while helping my parents’ business.
Usually, a number of players walk the path of leadership after retirement, but the answer of flexibility was unexpected.
I don’t mean to be a leader at all. If there is a good opportunity, I think it’s fun for the leader to do it. As a senior player, I taught my junior players and taught young children in the United States and Japan, which was more fun than I thought and a sense of accomplishment. Anytime
I think the road is open. There are so many things I want to do, so I don’t think the leader will ever do it.
