How to smash hard

Have you ever thought about what skills you would like to do best while playing badminton? During a lesson, I asked members the same question. Defensive, under, hairpins, and other techniques were talked about, but the most opinions were that they wanted to smash hard. Yes. This time, let’s look at smash.

Smash Sage is 3 points

To hit a quick and good smash, you need to have a good posture and RBI. With good posture, you can hit hard with little force, and you can hit sharp and fast smash at high RBIs. There are a total of three important points to hit the smash quickly.

1. Do not let your elbows go down your shoulders in the smash position

It is a bad posture for your elbows to go down excessively under your shoulders. This is because you only try to hit the ball hard, but you need to raise your elbows to hit a smash that is difficult for your opponent to receive at a high RBI. Also, if you make a habit of hitting your elbows down, you can put a lot of stress on your shoulders and increase the risk of injury.

▶ Training method

· Practice swinging repeatedly while looking in the mirror and being aware of the elbow position.

· Continued auxiliary training to help improve shoulder strength (band training)

2. Use the strength of your body instead of trying to beat it with your arms

It is not only those who are strong that can hit the smash hard. Of course, there is something proportional to the power, but if you can hit the shuttlecock with the center and rotational power using your weight, even a weak person can hit a smash with much faster and more power than now. Of course, those who have previously counted can hit harder.

For reference, I was second in the arm wrestling ranks in the national team. However, the smash speed was second in front. As such, strength does not take up all of the smash power, so let’s practice hard.

▶ Training method

· Practice the jump swing while standing at the end line and service line at the far end of the court (photo). At this time, it is good to train your elbows with awareness.

· Training to develop resilience, such as jumping rope and jumping.

▶ Jump swing training method (right-handed standard)

① Put your right foot on the line and take a swing position.

② Swing while jumping and land with your left foot. At this time, the point where the left foot lands should be the position where the right foot was, and the swing should be completely over when landing.

③ When the swing is over, stick out your right foot and step on the service line.

④ Protrude your left foot and step on the service line. Connect the above movements and practice repeatedly so that the swing can come out naturally.

3. Clear, drop, and smash practice hitting in the same position

No matter how good you have a smash, it is useless if the other person knows and prepares it in advance. Clear, drop, and smash all have to practice hitting in the same position so that the opponent cannot predict in advance. If you can drop and clear your opponent’s stance and finish with a quick smash, you will be able to see yourself growing one step further.

▶ Training method

· Always be aware of the elbow when hitting the shuttlecock.

· Developing forearm and shoulder strength so that accurate strokes can be obtained even when striking in the same posture (weight, band training, etc.)

Here are some of the most important parts of smashing. There are many other detailed points, but if you keep practicing by paying attention to the three points described above, you will surely feel the effect that not only the smash power and speed but also the other rear balls are improved.
