What a comeback! Zulte Waregem gets 2-0 in the final quarter …

What a way to end the year for Zulte Waregem! On a visit to Eupen, Essevee was deeply indebted 2-0 in the second half, but it fought its way to a 2-3 victory in a crazy ten minutes. An important one, because thanks to the victory, it expands the gap with the relegation places again to 7 points.

Between the snowflakes we got to see an interesting start of the competition Am Kehrweg. Both teams started the game enthusiastically, although the great opportunities failed to materialize. The enthusiasm of the opening minutes also quickly melted, as did the snowflakes. Where Essevee initially tried to play football, it increasingly opted for the long ball. Eupen then waited, unsuccessfully, for the right moment to stab at. For a long time we did not get to see suitable opportunities. There was a lot of midfield play and a lot of fighting, but little good football and goal chances.

Yet it was suddenly 1-0 for Eupen, a goal that literally fell from the sky. Musona was allowed to take a free kick from about 25 meters and placed the ball nicely over everything and everyone in the far corner. Zulte Waregem was upset and could thank Bostyn that it didn’t go into half time with a double deficit. Heris and N’Dri found the Waregem goalkeeper on their way.

The turnaround

Francky Dury joined Dompé and Srarfi after a coffee with two fresh forces. Kainourgios and Vossen had to pay for their lesser first half. Initially, it did not bring much ground. There was a renewed enthusiasm, but that was it. And that enthusiasm was also quickly thrown away when Musona, again from a free kick, made it 2-0. You would think a game played. But nothing could be further from the truth …

First, Dompé took care of the tying goal after a good rush, his second in two games. It rekindled faith in the visitors. And a little later it was suddenly right again after a goal from Bruno. Eupen collapsed completely within minutes. Zulte Waregem smelled blood and it steamed on on a wave of adrenaline. And it paid off, because the equalizer had not yet been consumed by the home team when suddenly Olivier Deschacht was there. Essevee’s old hand fumbled the ball over the goal line after a corner kick. Zulte Waregem actually takes the lead from a beaten position. Eupen went looking for the equalizer with the courage of despair, but Zulte Waregem held out.
