Indian legend Virender Sehwag has put Glenn Maxwell back in line, accusing the Australian cricket star of pocketing his Indian Premier League (IPL) paycheck without worrying about his performance.
Maxwell got off the summer brilliantly, playing against India in the one day international and T20 series. He failed to fire rapid fire strokes of 45, 63 and 59 in the ODIs and bludgeoned 54 and took 1/20 in the final T20 match in Sydney on Tuesday night.

But his recent exploits have led 104 Test veteran Sehwag to highlight the difference between Maxwell’s production in green and gold compared to his efforts in the IPL for Kings XI Punjab, which won him for a 2.2 contract at last year’s auction Signed million dollars.
“His attitude changes when he plays for Australia. When he goes to Australia he knows that if he has two or three bad innings he will be kicked out of the Australian team and it will be difficult to make a comeback, ”Sehwag told Sony Sports.
“He takes no pressure at all (in the IPL). It’s only there for pleasure.
“He’ll do anything in the game – encourage players to run around, dance differently than get runs. As soon as the game is over and he gets free (non-alcoholic) drinks, he brings them to his room or goes to the room and drinks a lot.
“I never had the feeling that he was serious about the game. When he comes to the IPL, he means golf more seriously than cricket. “
Maxwell fought for Kings XI Punjab in this year’s edition of the world’s most lucrative T20 tournament. He scored just 108 runs in 13 games with an average of 15.42 with a high score of 32.
The Victorian also failed to hit a six throughout the tournament, which ended up with a mediocre hit rate of 101.88.
His usual campaign comes after the right-handed man abandoned the 2019 IPL auction when he was expelled from the Delhi Daredevils after a normal 2018 campaign. This season he collected only 169 runs from 12 games and an average of only 8/14.

Sehwag’s comments come after a violent attack last month calling him a “cheerleader” who “has proven costly to Punjab”.
“He’s had a bad experience at work in the last few seasons,” said Sehwag at the end of the IPL. “But this season he’s reached new extremes – it’s called a high-paying vacation.”
Another former Indian star, Mohammad Kaif, also pointed out the discrepancy between Maxwell’s international accomplishments and his IPL efforts.
“It’s absolutely amazing. Everyone has the hope that they will fire in the IPL, that they will do well this year, ”Kaif said this week.
“He’s probably feeling more pressure in the IPL because only four foreign players (in each team) and seven Indians can play. So the competition between foreign players is great.
“But when he returns home, it has only been two to three weeks since the UAE IPL. There is such a big difference. He is able to play the backward sweeps, switch hits, and hit punches at any angle desired.
“So it’s not a problem with the skills of the player, but probably a problem with the mindset in IPL.”
Maxwell downplayed Sehwag’s “cheerleading” review when asked about it in November.
“Viru is pretty open about his dislike of me and that’s fine. He can say what he wants – he’s in the media for such statements. That’s okay, ”Maxwell said.
“I’ll deal with it and go on and take it with a grain of salt with Sehwag.”
