The MMA community is responding to Yoel Romero’s unexpected UFC release

A curveball was thrown at the MMA world yesterday when it became known that the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) had split from perennial middleweight contender Yoel Romero.

Romero, 43, had lost four of his last five trips to the Octagon but seemed right in the middle of the action at £ 185. Despite three fights on his UFC contract, “Soldier of God” got his running papers.

This came as a surprise to many as Romero appeared ready to book his next trip to the Octagon after running out of UFC 248 against UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya last March. The multiple UFC title challenger will now be an unrestricted free agent heading into 2021 and can sign with any promotion he wishes.
