It was a knockout that made the world stand up and take notice – and Tim Tszyu had a message for Moscow that he wanted to deliver in Sydney on Wednesday night after his emphatic destruction of Bowyn Morgan in the first round.
Tszyu looked into the camera after the second fastest end of his professional career and asked his father Kostya, who was watching from Russia, a question.

“Papa, ty schastliv?” Tim asked in his father’s native language and said, “Dad, are you happy?”
It left the impression that Kostya, a fearsome puncher who scored 25 of his 31 KO wins, was looking for a little extra after his son totally outperformed Jeff Horn in August but left it to Horn’s corner to end the process.
The quickness of Tszyu’s win over the New Zealander in the Sydney Super Fight, and in particular the recklessness of the right hook around Morgan’s guard pulling him through the ropes, was arguably the most gratifying aspect of the rising Australian star’s performance.
Many Australian boxing fans have curbed their expectations of the son of a legend, partly because they didn’t want to put additional pressure on him, but also because Kostya was just so damn good and the chances that the descendants of a Hall of Famer could keep up with world champions’ heroic deeds their father’s are basically unknown in boxing history.
The most obvious difference between papa and son seemed to be the devastating power that Kostya possessed and made opponents like Zab Judah stumble like a drunk in the ring.
Tszyu had shown against Horn that he had the skills to make a man who beat Manny Pacquiao look inferior, but did he have the heavy hands to deliver the kind of early interruptions viewers crave?
On Wednesday evening the answer is yes.
The 26-year-old was in control of every second of the fight, and the competition stalled as he pitched a vicious one-two combination with an overhand right that Morgan made on his feet. While Morgan was stunned for a moment, Tszyu slipped into a cute left uppercut in which his rival fell backwards.
Morgan just got back on his feet before he was tallied – and seconds later he wished the referee had stopped the first time.
After resuming action, Morgan was again dropped with another great right and dropped under the bottom rope and almost into the front row. It was a one-punch, walk-off KO statement that is going to go viral around the world in the days ahead.
While commentators stated that Tszyu purposely chased a first round break – the winner said he was simply preparing the fight when it ended so suddenly.
“I’ve only just started,” he said. “Bowyn Morgan is a tough competitor, I just didn’t give him an opportunity.”
