Philippe Montanier fired from Standard after new defeat …

It was already in the air, especially after the defeat against STVV on Saturday evening, and shortly after the game the news came out: Philippe Montanier was fired as trainer of Standard. This was confirmed on television by CEO Alexandre Grosjean.

The 56-year-old Philippe Montanier had only been a trainer at the Rouches since this summer, but now has to leave after just under 6 months. The Frenchman started his term as a coach very well, but the last two months it went from bad to worse.

In the meantime, Standard has been unable to win 8 games in a row in the Jupiler Pro League: after four consecutive draws, four consecutive defeats followed. The most recent of these were also against Mouscron and STVV, at the time of that defeat both red lanterns in the competition. The loss against STVV on Saturday evening proved fatal for Montanier.
