PGA Commissioner Jay Monahan said on Thursday that he did not intend to require players, officials and spectators to be vaccinated against COVID-19 to participate in the various tournaments in 2021.

“I think vaccination is a choice and I’m going to apply the same logic and dedication to it as anyone else. We will try to educate our members as best we can about the pros and cons of vaccination, he told the media. Ultimately, it’s an individual decision. “

The PGA is trying to bring spectators back to these events, although the majority of tournaments will not receive any until February. The Waste Management Phoenix Open is expected to accommodate less than 10,000 spectators per day.

The PGA Tour had to cancel 13 competitions in the spring and summer of 2020 due to the pandemic.

The vaccination campaign has started in the United States and there should be more doses available in the coming months.
