Napoli Wins Appeal, Match Vs Juventus Repeat & Point Penalty Canceled

As a result, WO Juventus’ victory was canceled and points were reduced by three. Meanwhile, Napoli got back one point that had been deducted.

Napoli won the appeal against the decision to defeat the Walk-Over (WO) from Juventus with a score of 3-0 in the third giornata of the 2020/21 Serie A season, early last October. In addition, the Il Partenopei one point penalty was canceled.

In that match, the Napoli squad chose not to attend the Allianz Stadium, the headquarters of Juventus.

Gennaro Gattuso’s squad did not get the green light to travel to Turin by Naples city health authorities after two of their players, Piotr Zielinski and Elif Elmas tested positive for COVID-19 along with one member of the club staff.

Juventus also reported two positive cases of club staff the day before the match, but they confirmed they were ready to stage the match against Napoli. Coach Andrea Pirlo has even released a list of Juve starters for that match.

In its preliminary ruling, the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) stated that Napoli had violated applicable health protocols and the rule that a team must meet the schedule if at least 13 players are available, including one goalkeeper.

Napoli’s appeal to the league manager, Lega Serie A, and its Italian PSSI, FIGC, was rejected.

However, their further efforts by filing an appeal to the Italian Olympic Committee Board (CONI) – the highest sporting authority – yielded results on Tuesday (22/12) local time.

It is possible that the postponed match between Juventus and Napoli will take place in January 2021. In the same month, the two teams were scheduled to meet in the Italian Super Cup.

Entering the 14th giornata, Juve are in fourth place in the standings with a collection of 24 points. Teraktual, The Old Lady suffered her first defeat this season when she was defeated by her guest, Fiorentina, by a score of 3-0.

Meanwhile, Napoli perched in third place with the same points but superior goal productivity and still have this midweek match against Torino.
