“I am Shocked by the Position of Arsenal Goalkeeper” – Riyad Mahrez Review Alex Runarsson’s Blunder

According to Mahrez, Runarsson’s position was too close to the far post. But what’s interesting is that the first name actually directs free football right at the goalkeeper.

Winger Manchester City, Riyad Mahrez (29 years), admitted he was surprised by the placement of Arsenal goalkeeper Alex Runarsson (25 years) before The Citizens’ second goal was created because of the goalkeeper’s blunder.

Most recently, Manchester City successfully beat Arsenal 4-1 in the Premier League Cup quarter-final at the Emirates Stadium, Wednesday (23/12) early morning Western Indonesian Time.

The goals from Pep Guardiola’s squad were scored by Gabriel Jesus (3 ‘), Mahrez (54’), Phil Foden (59 ‘) and Aymeric Laporte (73’) respectively. While Arsenal’s reply was scored by Alexandre Lacazette (31 ‘).

Mahrez scored his team’s second goal via a free kick which was executed from the left side of the Arsenal defense and he aimed at the far post.

The ball from Mahrez’s shot actually points right in front of Runarsson. Unfortunately, the Icelandic goalkeeper’s catch was not perfect and the ball slid into the net.

“Yes, I was surprised by the position of goalkeeper, he is very close to the far post,” Mahrez told Sky Sports after the competition.

“I thought he was going to move a little bit, so I tried to aim the ball at the far post, but he didn’t move. Good thing he wasn’t able to catch it properly. That’s good for us, “he added.

Overall, Runarsson did look very bad in that match. Arguably, Arsenal’s second goalkeeper also made a blunder on City’s other three goals, although it wasn’t too obvious.

As for Man City, who qualify for the semi-finals, Pep Guardiola’s squad has the opportunity to defend the Premier League Cup title for the fourth time in a row.
