Already on Friday the basketball league announced that the game of the Berliners scheduled for Saturday evening at Syntainics MBC in Weißenfels (6 p.m.) had to be postponed after a member from the Alba team had tested positive for the corona virus. On Saturday, Alba announced that it was head coach Aito Garcia Reneses.
Aito immediately isolated himself at home. However, the 74-year-old is “under close medical observation” because of his old age, as the capital city club announced. The positive result results from a routine test on Christmas Eve. All other team members had a negative result, but also immediately went into self-isolation. Another test will be scheduled on Sunday, after which all information will be transmitted to the Berlin health department and the situation will be re-evaluated.
Double winner Alba submitted an application to reschedule the game on Friday, which was granted by the BBL. The rescheduling will be informed in due course, it said. The Berliners were already suffering from the corona virus two months ago. At that time, six professionals tested positive and several games were postponed.
