Handball – Kiel in the premier class final – sport

Handball record champions THW Kiel reached the Champions League final for the first time in six years. The team of coach Filip Jicha prevailed at the final tournament in Cologne against the Hungarian team Veszprem HC with 36:35 (29:29, 18:13) after extra time. In the final, Kiel fights against record winners FC Barcelona for their fourth title in the premier class.

Hendrik Pekeler was Kiel’s best thrower with eight goals on Monday evening. The THW got off to a good start thanks to a convincing cover work. The inside block around the national players Patrick Wiencek and Pekeler was safe. Miha Zarabec met in the meantime to a seven-goal lead in Kiel. After the break, Veszprem drew courage, the Kiel cover could no longer get hold of their opponents. An exciting final phase developed. Kiel got the upper hand at the end of a dramatic roller coaster ride.
