Franco Morbidelli wants to ride the M1 2020 with one condition

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Satellite team racer Franco Morbidelli managed to perform brilliantly at the MotoGP 2020 event. He even managed to occupy the runner-up position in championship points, while beating several other riders such as Alex Rins, Andrea Dovizioso, and Pol Espargaro.

The success achieved by Morbidelli is indeed quite surprising to several parties, one of which is the manager of the Petronas Yamaha SRT team, Wilco Zeelenberg.

The reason is, Morbidelli’s teammate, Fabio Quartararo, had given a good appearance in the initial series of races and used a Yamaha racing motorbike with the same specs as used by the factory team. Meanwhile, Morbidelli is only equipped with Yamaha’s old motorbike, the YZR-M1 2019.

“Last year we did not expect Morbidelli to give the same performance as Fabio Quartararo,” Zeelenberg said as quoted from Corsedimoto, Tuesday (12/1/2020).

After protesting because the other three Yamaha riders were riding the M1 2020, Morbidelli has now changed his mind about wanting to ride the motorbike.

According to Zeelenberg, Morbidelli will still ride his old Yamaha motorbike, the YZR-M1 2019, except on one condition.

“At the moment, he doesn’t want anything else. He feels good about the 2019 YZR-M1 and doesn’t want to lose it. Of course he wants top speed, but he said ‘if I can’t test or compare 2020 bikes, I’d rather keep the 2019 M1. , “Said Zeelenberg.

In the upcoming season, Morbidelli will be side by side with veteran racer Valentino Rossi who was also his mentor at the VR46 Academy.
