Formula 1 welcomes the news from Bahrain. The technology and innovation of years of experience and research saved Romain Grosjean’s life and the French pilot thanks and confirms a good state of health from the Manama hospital where he will remain until today. Grosjean will be replaced this Sunday by another member of the inexhaustible Fittipaldi quarry. Back in Bahrain, although on a different circuit than Shakir, the Haas will be in the hands of Pietro Fittipaldi, grandson of old Emerson who competed in the seventy-fourth passenger of the family that competes with this surname in F1.

“A few years ago I was not in favor of the halo, but it is the best thing we have introduced in Formula 1. Without it today I could not talk to you. With these words Romain Grosjean wraps his gratitude for the T-shaped titanium piece that has saved his head.

It is possible that the French driver has closed his career in Formula 1 with this terrifying accident. There are two races left for the conclusion of the course (Bahrain 2 and Abu Dhabi) and Haas already confirmed a week ago that neither Grosjean nor Magnussen would continue in the team the next season. For the Frenchman, with 34 years and 11 of experience in F1, it is very likely that the road is over in the highest category of motorsport.

It is very likely that Grosjean will be replaced in 2021 by the son of another legend, Mick Schumacher, who could partner with Russian Nikita Mazepin. At the moment, the replacement for these two great prizes is another powerful surname in the universe of cars.

Pietro Fittipaldi He is the son of modernity and abundance. Brazilian by nationality, but born in Miami 24 years ago, he is the grandson of a guy who in Spain acquired a singular notoriety decades ago. His grandfather, Emerson Fittipaldi, won the Formula 1 World Championship twice, in 1972 and 1974, and is also a double winner in the Indianapolis 500 (1989 and 1993). The venerable veteran is now 73 years old and has been married three times. He was one of the pioneers of the tradition of great Brazilian drivers in Formula 1.

His brother, Wilson Fittipaldi, had a less successful track record. He only ran 35 grands prix between 1972 and 1975 and did not get any victories.

The penultimate on the list was until yesterday Christian Fittipaldi, son of Wilson, nephew of Emerson and uncle of the future Pietro. He took part in 40 Formula 1 races between 1992 and 1994 with little baggage: 12 points and 17 DNFs driving for Minardi and Footwork.

Pietro Fittipaldi is one of the many Fittipaldis who in the world are dedicated to motorsports, driving on the track, managing teams or organizing races. He started in Nascar (the road cars that Americans fall in love with), moved to Europe to single-seaters (Formula Renault), entered the Ferrari academy and has driven the Haas in tests in 2018 and 2019. And like Grosjean, he also knows the dread of accidents. In 2018 he broke both legs in Spa in a World Endurance event.
