FOOTBALL – Premier League: 18 positive cases for Covid-19 identified in the last round of tests

Like every year, football is in full swing in England during the holiday season. But the Covid-19 threat still looms, as evidenced by the desperately empty stands due to the closed doors imposed and, of course, the battery of tests to which players in the Premier League are very regularly subjected.

For the sake of transparency, the organizers of the English championship revealed on Tuesday that, of the 1,479 tests carried out between 21 and 27 December within the clubs, 18 were positive. Among them are the Gunner Gabriel and Citizens Gabriel Jesus and Kyle Walker. Particularly affected by the virus, Manchester City has also seen its match against Everton scheduled for Monday to be postponed.

“Players or staff who have tested positive must adhere to a ten-day isolation period,” added the Premier League in its press release, which also revealed the figures for the tests that have taken place since the end of August. Until then, the record for the number of positive cases was 16 (out of 1,207 tests, carried out between 9 and 15 November).
