Football Leaks: Sporting system crash occurred before attack

The crash of Sporting’s email system happened before the computer attacks allegedly carried out by Rui Pinto, this Tuesday confirmed the former systems administrator of the Alvalade club in the 11th session of the ‘Football Leaks’ trial.

According to David Luís Tojal, «the first error detected happened at 9:06 am» on September 22, 2015, when Sporting users were left without access to their email boxes.

In this sense, the former computer technician of the lions indicated that “the first attack occurs at 18h55” of the same day, that is, almost 10 hours after the crash.

“As of 9:16 am, it was almost 48 hours straight trying to solve the problem,” said Tojal, who, questioned by Judge Margarida Alves if the crash was related to the commands allegedly sent by the creator of Football Leaks, replied that it was not.

The former Sporting computer technician was also unable to find an explanation for the origin of the ‘crash’, having confessed that the computer attacks of that day had no influence on the situation that the club’s email system was experiencing, in a statement that he can place concerned the crime of computer sabotage attributed by the Public Ministry to Rui Pinto.

«At the time, we had no perception that the attack was taking place. We just went back to the logs [registos de acesso] when Jorge Jesus’ contract at ‘Football Leaks’ comes out », David Luís Tojal took over.
