Crisis broke out: Borussia Dortmund fired their coach

Borussia Dortmund fired their coach, Swiss Lucien Favre, a day after the ruhr basin team’s defeat against Stuttgart (1-5), the club announced this Sunday.

“Lucien Favre is no longer Dortmund’s manager”said the German team in a tweet, specifying that Edin Terzic, current deputy of the Swiss, will train BVB “until the end of the season.”

“We are all grateful to Lucien Favre for his excellent work over the two and a half years in which he has managed to be runner-up twice,” said BVB manager Hans-Joachim Watzke.

“As an expert and as a person, Lucien Favre is on top of everything without the slightest doubt,” he added.

On his side, the sports director, Michael Zorc, indicated that the club had to react since the objectives for the season were “strongly threatened at the moment by the recent negative evolution”.

The dismissal of the 63-year-old Helvetian, as well as the co-coach, takes place with “immediate effect”, according to the club, which confirmed the information in the German media.

The new coach has already started preparations this Sunday afternoon for Tuesday night’s Bundesliga game at the home of Werder Bremen.

Dortmund received a heavy 5-1 humiliation at home at the hands of Stuttgart on Saturday and fell to fifth place, out of Champions League positions and provisionally five points behind the leader.

Arrived on the bench in 2018, Favre had been criticized for many weeks. Commentators claimed he was “unable to transcend the team.”

In fact, Dortmund’s last title is a German Cup victory in 2017, led by Thomas Tuchel.

Favre, of undeniable talent as a coach, suffered in the German media the comparison with his predecessors: the current Liverpool manager, Jürgen Klopp, and Tuchel.
