“Rugby Club Toulonnais learned this Thursday, December 17 that at least one player from the Scarlets team had tested positive at the start of the week for Covid-19. As a result, the Bath Rugby club, which faced the Scarlets last weekend, were forced to forfeit the second day of the European Cup because twelve players from their squad had been in close contact with this Welsh player. Faced with this state of affairs, Rugby Club Toulonnais, although aware of the serious consequences, has decided not to play this meeting as planned this Friday evening, ”the club said in a statement.

The match postponed … for two days

A few tens of minutes later, the EPCR (for European Professional Club Rugby), in charge of the organization of the European Cup, indicated, still in a press release, that the match was postponed.

The European body offered Toulon to play on Sunday. This option involved two conditions. First, that the Scarlets team be tested again to take stock of any positive cases for Covid-19 in their team. Then, that the Toulonnais who do not wish to play the meeting for personal reasons can return to France and be replaced.
