The Spanish Caixabank Sub-22 Autonomous Communities Wheelchair Basketball Championship will be held in Avilés on Sunday and Monday. A competition in which the teams of Andalusia, Madrid and Catalonia will participate, with a double-round triangle system: three matches will be played on Sunday and three more on Monday. The president of the Spanish Federation of People with Physical Disabilities (FEDDF), Asturian José Alberto Álvarez, explains that at the time of the organization’s request, “the sanitary conditions in Asturias were the best and the Sports Foundation of ‘Avilés opted for it ”and that is why this competition will take place in the region.

Although Asturias will not be present with a team, there will be three participating Asturians, since these teams can complement their teams with players from other regions and with Madrid there will be three of the Garmat components of Avilesino: Tania García , Carmen Abella and Roberto Carrico. The matches will be played at the Jardín de Cantos sports center and will take place behind closed doors, although they can be streamed on “tupuedestv.com”.

It won’t be the only activity taking place in Asturias in the coming days, as the Spanish Under-22 squad will focus on Avilés from Monday. There will also be a technification group these same days in Gijón. All this makes José Alberto Álvarez “proud”: “A National Adapted Swimming was also held recently in Oviedo”.
