WICKET! Umesh c Wade b Starc 6, India 240-9
It didn’t take long. Umesh has a huge punch, gets a certain edge and hits him very high between mid-on and mid-off. In the end, Wade comes out of cover under this high ball and throws it forward.

92nd by: India 240-8 (Umesh 6, Bumrah 0) This is the stuff! Nice and easy, Umesh shuffles back into his crease and slaps Cummins in the middle for four! Took the fuller length. Cummins goes short next, so Umesh retires and plays baseball. Missing. Ducks take a shorter ball, have another fresh air swing, and then drink a single one.

91st by: India 235-8 (Umesh 1, Bumrah 0) India’s only hope now is a real strike. Bumrah scored a top 50 for the first time in his career in the SCG Tour match a few days ago, but this bowling is a different level.

WICKET! Saha c Paine b Starc 9, India 235-8
Except that Saha doesn’t do any of that. Starc takes the ball, the key man Saha needs to see. And instead of doing that, Saha plays an airy drive on a wide ball and edges it from the angled bat to his opposing goalkeeper.
This is an absolutely horrific shot.
I know we get into shot selection sometimes when it’s not justified, but in the innings circumstances it was stupid.

90th by: India 234-7 (Saha 9, Umesh 1) Cummins knocks Ashwin over, then bowler a beauty similar to Umesh Yadav for his first ball. Somehow it misses the edge as he feels forward. The Indian quickly manages to survive the end and even get through a run. Saha will have to take the lead very strongly.

WICKET! Ashwin c Paine b Cummins 15, India 233-7
Wrong, it’s Cummins to start the day and he starts it with a wicket! A bouncer to Ashwin’s first ball, a long ball to the second, then a peach with the third ball that is pitched but ricochets and adorns, and Ashwin is on his way over his stumps and bumps into it fearing he is will hit him on the block. Instead, it jumps, takes the ledge high on the bat, and flies through to the wicketkeeper. Australia’s ideal start.

Murray Henman is also adapting to Australia’s bold new economy.
“The only advantage of not having a full-time job these days is the freedom to watch cricket non-stop. I’m looking forward to an interesting day – even though I’m in Brisbane, it’s a little weird not to have the game here. “
We’ll bring the trailer to you in a couple of weeks, Murray, provided we can come from Sydney.

A reader I’ll only refer to as Tom because he wisely says you can never be sure who is reading has contacted you.
“It’s the second day of my new job. WFH (up on the roof as it’s sunny here today) is trying to get my old head to learn new things that I need to understand before I get started. I won’t let the cricket distract me! “
Hmm No? I want a job where I can go on the roof when I feel like it. Actually, I can often go to the upper level of a stadium, which is similar. No complaints then.

Kohli has gathered his Indian team in a circle and gives them a damn pep talk. He really wants his charges today to believe that they can keep up instead of hoping to survive. Kohli’s slip last night was such a defining moment – he and Rahane tossed the wicket and it left Australia back in the game.

preamble
Geoff Lemon
We’re gone for the second day. India finished the first evening at 233 for 6 with two decent lower order bats at the fold in Saha and Ashwin. What this couple can build will be key. India scored 250 points in the first innings of 2018 and won this match due to an outstanding bowling performance by the entire team. That kind of sum could be at stake here too. There appeared to be a fair bit in that surface and a fair bit in the pink sphere when both were put to good use.
Two doors for Starc, one each for Hazlewood, Cummins and Lyon.
We’ll no doubt start with Starc and Hazlewood and a relatively new ball. Expect the first few overs to be the most important: wickets and Australia will move up, keep the bowlers out and maybe India can resist.
Should be fun.
