5th victory in a row for Real Madrid, winner of Granada (2-0)

The days go by and look the same for Real Madrid. Without shining for 90 minutes, Zinédine Zidane’s men pocketed a fifth straight victory in La Liga, after having disposed of Granada at home (2-0). It was not until the second half to see the Merengue, long without idea, make the difference thanks to Casemiro. In the last seconds, Karim Benzema validated this success which allows Real to come back to the height of Atlético Madrid in the standings, still with two more matches.

Do not be fooled by the score: the two goals ahead are far from summing up the face of a generally disappointing match. Not much happened before the break, as the two teams were playing at a small pace, without spark. The confrontation had nevertheless started well since Antonio Puertas (1st) then Karim Benzema (3rd) could have scored from the start. The following ? Long minutes of boredom. The absence of Luka Modric, perfect on the launch pad, missed the Merengue.

Real power 5, anyway

Back from the locker room, Real Madrid only needed an acceleration. While he touched the post with a sublime heel recovery, Marco Asensio, who came into play after Rodrygo’s injury, donned his decisive passer costume for Casemiro, scorer with a pricked and powerful header (1-0, 57e). We were then waiting for the reaction of Granada, usually a catchy team. But it never took place, despite a few defensive mistakes on the part of the enemy. The Madrilenians were therefore content to manage by taking control of the ball until the beautiful strike of Karim Benzema, more discreet than usual (2-0, 90th + 3).

There will still be one game to go in 2020 for Real, against Elche, to end the year on an excellent note. In any case, Zidane’s Merengues confirm, week after week, that they are indeed back in great shape. They stand out as the main rivals of the Colchoneros for the title, in view of the complicated season of FC Barcelona.
