Denise Betsema put an end to Lucinda Brand’s series of victories in Antwerp. Brand, who won the first World Cup competition at the end of November, now finished second. She was slightly faster than Annemarie Worst, who finished third in the Scheldecross.
European champion Ceylin Alvarado suffered a material breakdown halfway through the match and had to walk to the equipment station. Then Betsema attacked Brand and Worst and held up well in the last two rounds. She was four seconds faster than Brand on the line.
