Week 9 Winners – 2020 NFL Season • First and Ten

The surprises and good performances were not lacking and therefore we have material for this edition of the winners of Week 9 in the 2020 NFL Season. Teams with great performances from the hand of their quarterbacks but also helped by their defenses are on this list and personal achievements of some players that gave the note.

These are the winners of week 9 of the 2020 NFL season.

Buffalo Bills

This team had been generating more doubts than answers in the four games prior to week 9, in which they faced the Titans and Chiefs, showing that they were not a conference contender. Then it was against the Jets and the Patriots, whom with a lot of work he was able to win. If there was a game where they had to send a message to the league that it was an unusual month, it was against the then best team in the National Conference. And they succeeded.

The game was in control of the Bills with a great performance by Josh Allen who, despite the fact that the running offense was non-existent, managed to dominate a defense that was expected to do better with the return of Jamal Adams. The defense was not far behind, holding back an attack that many times proved unstoppable thanks to Russell Wilson and his MVP season, at least in the first half.

They got four turnovers, five sacks and giving opportunities for the offense to generate points. The question now rests on the ability to maintain this rhythm because, if so, we could return the tag of the contending team.

Head Coach Andy Reid – Chiefs

The Chiefs coach scored his 230th win to outrun Curly Lambeau’s record of victories and rank fifth in NFL history among the most successful coaches. He also led his team to game number 23 in which they scored at least 23 points, breaking their own record.

QB Patrick Mahomes – Chiefs

The Chiefs quarterback showed that, despite slow starts, he finds a way to do things right, exploiting the talent around him. The scoreboard indicates a tight duel and yes, because the defense did not have a bad afternoon. But Patrick Mahomes was in charge of throwing 372 yards and four touchdown passes that helped him get the win and also break Dan Marino’s record by reaching the mark of 100 touchdown passes in the fewest games. Marino did it in 44 games and Mahomes ranked 40. The Chiefs will not be undefeated, but they are up for discussion as the best team in the AFC right now.

QB Tua Tagovailoa – Dolphins

We saw little of this young quarterback in his NFL debut last week when it took practically no offense to beat the Rams. This time the Cardinals presented a bigger challenge, not just for Tua, but for his defense, which contributed points. But if they wanted to win in Arizona, the Dolphins had to show more offense with the Tagovailoa arm… and they did.

Miami’s QB ended up being key in the win, throwing 28 passes for 20 completions, 248 yards with a pair of touchdowns and without being intercepted. There was a play in which it seemed an imminent sack and he was able to take the pressure off and then advance to the opponent’s 11-yard line.

Then came this great pass for the tie at 31.

The Dolphins remain undefeated in the Tua era and are slowly making us forget about “one” Ryan Fitzpatrick.

K Jason Sanders – Dolphins

The Dolphins’ kicker remains perfect in 2020 and this week he added a pair of field goals of at least 50 yards to help his team win. In an age when good, reliable kickers are in short supply, Sanders gives Miami peace of mind.
