Volland and Fabregas hurt PSG: two goals from Mbappé are not enough

Paris Saint-Germain has had a bad dress for the important Champions League game against RB Leipzig. The French top club went down again in Ligue 1 after eight consecutive victories: AS Monaco turned a 0-2 deficit into a 3-2 victory.

At PSG, Neymar started on the bench, but Kylian Mbappé did appear at the kick-off against his old club. The French attacker opened the score nicely after 25 minutes, after being sent deep by Ángel di María. Not much later, the ball hit the spot and that great opportunity was well spent on Mbappé. With that, there seemed to be no problem for PSG, although goals from Moise Kean and again Mbappé were rejected for offside.

However, Monaco showed a different face in the second half. Kevin Volland quickly made it 1-2 and after 65 minutes it was again hit for the German attacker. This time he struck on a pass from substitute Cesc Fabregas. Things then got worse for PSG, where Neymar and Mitchel Bakker came in. Abdou Diallo lost the ball in the penalty area to Volland and corrected it with a foul. Fabregas redeemed the penalty.

For PSG, the grapes are sour. The lead is not yet in danger for the team of coach Thomas Tuchel, who now has a four-point lead over Monaco. But things have to improve quickly, because after three matches in the group stage of the Champions League, the gap to Manchester United and RB Leipzig is three points.
