VAR takes back Tor from Leeds

A decision of the video evidence causes great outrage in England – despite a rule-compliant decision.

In the game between Leeds United and Crystal Palace (1: 4) on Saturday afternoon, striker Patrick Bamford scored the alleged 2: 2 for Leeds in the first half. However, the VAR took back the hit. The reason: The goalscorer was offside – with his arm (the game for reading in the ticker).

Armpit trouble at Mané and Liverpool

The pictures clearly show that the striker started with his upper body, legs and head clearly in the permitted area with the long ball. But he raised his arm and showed where he was going. As a result, his armpit was closer to the goal than the penultimate defender.

The armpit has been a part of the body in England since this season with which goals can be scored and is therefore to be penalized as relevant offside. The new rule always causes excitement. A goal from Jordan Henderson had already not counted at the Merseyside derby between Liverpool and Everton because Sadio Mané was previously offside with his armpit.

So now another mega excitement. BBC– Expert Robbie Savage raged: “This is the most incredible thing I have ever seen. This is the worst decision I have ever seen. The worst decision in the history of football.”

England striker legend Gary Lineker tweeted: “This is another ridiculous offside decision by the VAR. I loathe the way the rule is implemented.”

Former international Matthew Upton attended BBC5live his rejection of this decision. “Bamford is doing everything right and only his arm is sidelined. I don’t get it. You have to discuss why something like this is being taken back.”

Referee expert: “Absolute nonsense”

Meanwhile in England there is now confusion about the introduced armpit rule, because not everyone knows it. So said referee expert Mark Halsey SunSports: “It shouldn’t have been denied because of offside. You can see that the line is drawn at armpit level. That’s nonsense. His feet were not offside. Absolute nonsense.”

The expert pleaded independently of this scene, however, that there must be changes in the intervention of the video referee. “With decisions like this we ruin the game. We don’t want goals of this kind to be denied. If you can’t see it with the naked eye after the first replay then it shouldn’t be offside.”

A fire of indignation also sparked on the Internet. One fan wrote: “An absolute shame … we say it every week, now the VAR is ruining the game!”

Another supporter added: “Now his arm is offside, I’m giving up. So far from the real game – it’s scary.”
