Trent Alexander-Arnold, Thiago Alcantara, Fabinho, Van Dijk: Liverpool injury list and return flight dates

Liverpool have already had to deal with a number of injuries, including Virgil van Dijk, Thiago Alcantara and most recently Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Jurgen Klopp is just one of several Premier League managers who have expressed displeasure over the decision not to allow five substitutes per game in an effort to improve players’ fitness and wellbeing.

Here are the latest updates to Liverpool’s injury list, including full details on when they are expected to be back in action.

Trent Alexander-Arnold

Trent Alexander-Arnold was sent off with a hamstring injury in the 1-1 draw with Manchester City in the second half.

Liverpool have yet to confirm a timeframe for the Englishman’s return but Jurgen Klopp confirmed after the game that he would miss the national team’s triple header during the international break in mid-November.

It will be rated once the squad returns before the Leicester City game.

Fabinho

Fabinho fell victim to Liverpool’s mounting injury problems when he caught up with a thigh problem in the first half of their UEFA Champions League win against Midtjylland.

Scans have been going on since then and Liverpool are set to do without the midfielder, who performed well as an emergency center-back for the Reds, until after the international break.

Klopp has confirmed that Fabinho should be fine to return after the international break.

Virgil van Dijk

Liverpool will be without Virgil van Dijk for most of the season, at least after sustaining a serious ACL injury against Everton.

The Reds’ inspiring center-back was caught in a horror challenge from Jordan Pickford and successfully operated on in London this week.

Liverpool are reluctant to set a timeframe but the Reds defender may not play against this season.

Thiago Alcantara

Midfielder Thiago Alcantara was also injured in the derby after finding himself on the receiving end of a wild lunge by Richarlison for which the Everton striker was sent off.

There were initial fears that the summer signature injury could be severe, but a scan gave the Reds positive news and the Spaniard was portrayed as training alone ahead of the Midtjylland game.

However, doubts remain about when he will be available next as he missed the West Ham and Manchester City games. He’s another star who hopefully will return after the international break.

Naby Keita

Keita has been absent with an unspecified injury since the last international break, but returned to the day’s squad as a substitute during the Champions League fight against Atalanta.

He was named again on the bench against Man City but didn’t appear and could hopefully be considered fit enough to start the next time the Reds play in European competition.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

The 27-year-old was involved in a challenge while training in Austria when the incident occurred and Jurgen Klopp said it looks like a similar injury to captain Jordan Henderson sustained against Brighton late last season.

He returned to Melwood for rehabilitation with the club’s medical staff. The midfielder has been unlucky with injuries during his Liverpool career and fans will hope the news won’t keep him out long.

Kostas Tsimikas

New signing Kostas Tsimikas was due to return to training recently after a thigh problem.

But it seems like the Greek international hasn’t made his comeback yet and the Reds are hoping he’ll be ready soon.

The Greek left-back suffered a hamstring injury after making his debut in defeating Lincoln in the EFL Cup.
