NBPA and the league board will have separate meetings on Thursday. ESPN reports that players’ representatives are planning to hold an informal vote today on the start date of the season, suggesting that it will be December 22nd.

The Athletic announced on Tuesday that the NBPA will vote to start the season on December 22 or January 18.

Once the start of the season has been agreed, the league will lift the ban on teams addressing free agents so they can prepare for the players’ market as soon as possible. The NBA draft is scheduled for November 18, and the training camps will begin on December 1.

If the season started on December 22, 72 games would be played, which is ten less than usual, the regular championship would end in May, but the elimination tournament around July 22, without overlapping with the Olympic Games.

On the other hand, if the season starts a month later, the regular championship will most likely have 60 games and more matches in two days in a row. In this scenario, the regular championship would end in June, but the elimination tournament would end in August and overlap with the Olympics.

The NBA said in June that the next season could begin on December 1, but the NBPA has never supported it as a start date.

The final phase of last season took place at Disney’s ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando. The last match of the season took place on October 11, when the Los Angeles Lakers secured a 4-2 victory over the Miami Heat.
