The magic of the unpredictable of the NFL • First and Ten

By Eugenia Ruiz (@EugeniaR_)

Do you know why I enjoy watching this league so much? For things like this Sunday’s NFL match. Just by looking back at what we saw, we can realize how competitive this sport is, how unpredictable the NFL is, and why it generates so many passions.

Games that we considered practically a procedure like the Pittsburgh Steelers vs Dallas Cowboys were too close and were defined in the last minutes or what about a New Orleans Saints vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers, divisional duel with two of the best QBs of all time fighting to be number one in their division and ended up being a one-sided crushing match?

Entering an NFL Sunday we can have clear favorites and in a single room put an end to those illusions. But the reality is, that unpredictability, those breakers, those disastrous picks are one of the biggest reasons the NFL hooks you up quickly.

We knew that this 2020 season would be even more unpredictable because of how unusual it would be in the midst of a global pandemic and because of the challenges and anomalies that all 32 teams would have to face equally, however, in a year in which things they are daunting, that unpredictability in this league excites us.

Now, there is no clear favorite in the NFC, we just have a chain where the Packers suffer with the Bucs, but the Bucs suffer with the Saints but the Saints suffer with the Packers and where one of the QB running for MVP had four deliveries of the ball in the same game.

And the AFC is not far behind: the undefeated team suffered against one of the worst defenses in the league and the Kansas City Chiefs were on the verge of losing to Carolina who came in with a 3-5 mark.

Despite having our favorite teams and those we can’t stand, all NFL fans must agree on one thing: this league brings us emotions unlike any other sport and we appreciate this level of competitiveness, close matches , of unpredictable defenses, of unstoppable offenses …

Without a doubt, the team that wins this season will be “the great” survivor.
