As we have already mentioned in our main article, Diego Armando Maradona he loved tennis. He was seen on many occasions to cheer on his beloved country, the albiceleste, in Davis Cup qualifiers … but his passion goes much further back. The journalist Rene Stauffer recalled one of those anecdotes that reveal the character of the ’10’: he ‘sneaked’ into the media area of the Philippe Chatrier to encourage “like crazy” John McEnroe. The occasion? The mythical final of Roland Garros 1984 before Ivan Lendl, who lost after going two sets up. One of those moments well kept in the trunk of memories.
It was the French Open Final 1984 when #Diego Maradona showed up on the media tribune, sitting right next to me. He cheered like crazy for #johnmcenroe. In vain, as McEnroe lost a match he never should have lost to #ivanlendl, as we know. RIP pic.twitter.com/isJNOTJK8a
