Some famous tidbits of Tiger Woods

American Tiger Woods had a day on Sunday that he should remember for a long time, but really not for the right reasons.

The champion of the 2019 Masters Tournament is far from having lived up to this status on the 12th hole of the famous course in Augusta, Georgia. On a par 3, he totaled 10 strokes, sending his ball a few times into the water and the sand traps.

In fact, it was his worst score for a single hole since the start of his illustrious professional career. The ex-world number 1 finally ended the day with a round of 76 (+4) and a cumulative of 287 (-1) good for the 38th place.

Woods brought up the changing wind direction as an explanation for his misadventures for the day, but it wasn’t so when he had to justify further trouble on the pitch. Here are some other holes that have made life difficult for the Tiger in the PGA.

Third hole, Muirfield Village Golf Club, Memorial tournament, 1997

A few months after starting his professional career, Woods showed up at the Memorial Tournament in early 1997 and ran into trouble all weekend. His third and final round ended with a record of 74, but more importantly, a score of 9 on a par 3. That poor performance saw him tie for second to last and a total of +5. The only golfer he managed to beat was his compatriot John Daly.

Before Sunday, it was the American’s worst score for a hole.

Oakland Hills Country Club 16th hole, United States Open, 1996

The young amateur player Woods had started the competition strong with a birdie early in the opening round, but from the 14th pennant it was a total collapse. Three bogueys, one double bugy and one quadruple bugy (a score of 8 on a par 4) during the last five holes gave him a card of 76 and eventually, the 82nd rung for the whole tournament. Despite his problems the day before, he had rebounded with a 69 to avoid the cleaver after 36 holes, but it was largely insufficient for the rest. He finished with 14 strokes over par.

10th hole at the Royal Troon Golf Club, British Omnium, 1997

The only other such disastrous appearance for Woods on a hole in a major was in 1997, the year of his first appearance in the British Open as a professional. For the whole weekend, the one who had won the Masters Tournament shortly before did not do badly, taking 24th place. However, some will remember his quadruple buggy on the 10th hole in his second round. Despite a few strokes, including an eagle on the 16th pennant during his third 18 hole, he finished 12 strokes behind the winner, Justin Leonard.
