Salvadoran Uriel Canjura wins bronze medal at the XI Mexican international badminton championship

Salvadoran badminton player Uriel Canjura said goodbye to the XI International Mexican 2020, winning the bronze medal, after falling 2-0 (21-15 and 21-11) in the semifinals against the Mexican Job Castillo, at the Olympic Gymnasium of Ciudad Deportiva de Aguascalientes , Mexico, which hosted the competition.

“The first set was good, I think I should have taken better advantage of the advantage I got at the beginning, but I also felt uncomfortable with the steering wheel, since I hit him and he didn’t fly very fast. I think my opponent knew how to take advantage of that, ”said Canjura, who in the quarterfinals had defeated Mexican Héctor Gabriel Franco 2-0 (21-14 and 21-6).

For his part, José Armando Bruni, president of the Salvadoran Badminton Federation (Fesalbad), considered the participation and medal obtained by the Cuscatleco “important”, since, despite the COVID19 pandemic, many events were suspended, Canjura managed to compete in the Mexican international event.

“For us as a federation, the result is very good because we secured an international bronze medal and El Salvador is making badminton history, because we did not have international medals and now we do,” said Bruni.

After competing in Mexican territory, Canjura will fly to El Salvador, where he will stay for a few days, and then he will return to Spain to continue competing with his team, the Oviedo Club, in the Top8 of LaLiga de Badminton.
