Raiders and Buccaneers aim to be in the postseason

MEXICO CITY.

LThe last time both the Raiders and the Buccaneers played in the same postseason, they ended up playing the Super Bowl in January 2003.

More than 17 years after that duel in which Tampa Bay was crowned for the only time in its history by coach Jon Gruden, both franchises are in good position to return to the postseason in the same year.

Gruden is now digesting the fate of the Raiders, who with renewed spirits playing in Las Vegas aims to break a four-season streak without reaching the postseason by going 6-3 with three wins in a row. After falling into that Super Bowl, they have only qualified for the playoffs in 2016.

This year the Malosos boast the eighth best offense in points scored per game (28.3), while on their calendar they already have victories crossed out against teams that stand out in the group of favorites such as the Saints (second week) and the champions Chiefs (fifth week ), who had their undefeated status removed.

On Sunday they beat the Broncos with their fifth game with more than 30 points (37) and next weekend they will look to give a new setback to Kansas City to fight for the leadership of the Western Division.

The Buccaneers, who won that distant Super Bowl XXXVII 48-21, are enjoying their best season since 2007, when they last made the postseason.

Tampa Bay has an attack that stands out with stars like quarterback Tom Brady, wide receivers Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, tight end Rob Gronkowski and running back Ronald Jones. To all these top-tier elements, receiver Antonio Brown was added a couple of weeks ago.

The Raiders and Buccaneers aim for this season to be one in which they meet again in the playoffs.
