No more competition in 2020: other associations are following suit

The situation at volleyball

The Northwest German Volleyball Association (NWVV) had obtained an opinion of the clubs. At a joint meeting of the NWVV Presidium, the regional chairmen and the department heads, it was decided to suspend the season until December 31st.

For Julian Mann, division manager and player at association league club MTV Gamsen, the right decision: “Even if we survive the lockdown in November, I can’t imagine that we can go back to normal in December.”

The association gaming committee is now to develop possible scenarios for a return to gaming operations from January 2021. “The aim will be to develop and offer an attractive and competition-oriented gaming operating model in the coming year,” said NWVV managing director André Guddack.

“I can’t imagine that there will be a round trip, that would make the season too long and possibly even overlap with the beach volleyball season – if that happens. I think it will either only be a first half or the season will be played in tournament form, “said Mann.

The NWVV presidium will meet again in December to reassess the effects of the corona pandemic, in consultation with the regional chairpersons and department heads.

The badminton situation

The North Group sports officials have decided to suspend the regional and major league season until January 15, 2021. “The continuation and alternatives will be discussed on January 3rd,” said Robert Mauer, Vice President of Performance Sports. One thing is also certain: the North German individual championship, which was planned from January 9th to 11th, has been canceled.

“We would all rather go out on the field and play,” says Dennis Friedenstab, captain of BV Gifhorn, “but I think it is the right decision to suspend the game until January. Let’s hope that we can do a small part in this way that everyone will soon be able to live again without a mask and a minimum distance. “

The Lower Saxony Badminton Association has not yet gone as far as the Northern Group for its gaming operations, it will initially be interrupted until the end of November. “The games scheduled in this interruption phase can be made up for in the spring, for example. We have created the opportunity to extend the league game season until April / May 2021,” said the acting chairman Markus Bennewitz.

Important: A withdrawal from the league game does not mean relegation from the corresponding league this season.

In the run-up there were two circular leagues, a district class and a small number of individual teams decided to completely suspend the game for the 2020/2021 season.

The situation in handball

Originally, the handball region of Southeast Lower Saxony (HRSON) wanted to discuss a restart in December in November. Then the Lower Saxony handball association sent its divisions into the Corona forced break. Games will be suspended here until December 31st. For the sake of standardization, HRSON has now also adjusted the suspension of senior gaming operations in all classes in the region to this date. Means: The games for the adults will be suspended until at least December 31, the games for the youth until at least January 31, 2021. “The adjustment of the HRSON is sensible, but was to be expected”, says Kerstin Geffers, youth manager at HSC Ehmen satisfied with the decision.
