Nadal is a record 790 weeks in a row in the top ten of the ATP rankings

Spanish tennis player Rafael Nadal broke Jimmy Connors’ record for uninterrupted weeks in the top ten of the ATP world rankings. Thirteen-time champion Roland Garros finished 790 weeks in a row in the elite company on Monday, Connors’ series is a week shorter.

The native of Mallorca, who matched the historic collection of 20 Grand Slam trophies of Roger Federer five weeks ago by winning a record 13th title in Paris, first entered the Top 10 in the ATP standings on April 25, 2005 as an 18-year-old. Connors remained among the elite from August 23, 1973, when the ranking was introduced, until September 25, 1988.

The third place in the historical ranking belongs to Federer, who has 734 weeks. His series was interrupted in 2016 by a knee injury, after which he dropped out of ten for several months. The fourth is Ivan Lendl (619) ahead of Pete Sampras (565). Current world number one Novak Djokovic has been in the Top 10 continuously for 555 weeks, which puts him in sixth place.

Overall, Federer spent the most weeks in the top ten (921 weeks). Followed by Connors with 816 weeks, Nadal (790), Andre Agassi (747) and Lendl (671).
