Martial Is Fading, Solskjaer Says It This

Anthony Martial has not performed satisfactorily this season. Even so, Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was not upset by the decline in his team’s performance.

Last season, Martial appeared sharp in front of the opponent’s goal. He managed 23 goals and 12 assists in 48 matches, which is his best achievement since coming to Old Trafford in the summer of 2015.

But in this season, the taps on his goals are a bit clunky. He has been given eight games to play, and has only scored two goals, all in the Champions League. Meanwhile, in the Premier League, the French striker has yet to score a goal.

In the last match against West Bromwich Albion on Sunday (11/22/2020), Martial appeared 90 minutes, but failed to score from the four opportunities he got. He also began to be criticized, one of which was the former Chelsea and French national team defender Frank Leboeuf.

But Solskjaer is calm about what Martial is going through at the moment. He believes his striker will soon return to the form he hoped for.

“Anthony played well last season and took a big step towards becoming an extraordinary striker,” Solskjaer was quoted as saying by Metro.

“Like the majority of other players, he also did not have enough pre-season, and he is working to reach his best. He also had to miss several games because of being suspended, so he missed a little chance to play.

“Hopefully he will continue to work hard to reach his best condition again. He made good progress last season. I think he will be much better and more developed,” continued Solskjaer, confident in Martial.

MU will next host Istanbul Basaksehir on matchday 4 of the Champions League, Wednesday (25/11) at 03.00 WIB. Martial certainly has to answer the doubts placed on him by scoring goals, as well as increasing the Red Devils’ chances of qualifying for the last 16.

Currently, MU is leading the Group H standings with 6 points, but RB Leipzig who is second also has the same points. Paris Saint-Germain and Basaksehir traverse behind on three points.
