Alisson and Firmino’s Brazilian teammate tests positive for Covid-19

Brazilian midfielder Gabriel Menino has retired from the national team squad after testing positive for coronavirus.

The 20-year-old Palmeiras midfielder failed a second test on Wednesday after a first round of negative results at the start of the international break.

Menino trained with Liverpool stars Alisson Becker and Roberto Firmino, as well as with other Premier League stars such as Ederson, Gabriel Jesus, Thiago Silva, Richarlison, Allan and Alex Telles.

The star reports that Menino has been withdrawn from the team but has been asymptomatic spending time with and training with his teammates.

None of the other Brazilian players tested negative in the second round of testing. National team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar confirmed: “In the tests carried out yesterday, Gabriel Menino tested positive for Covid-19. All other players in the group tested negative.

It is important to note that on Monday when the players arrived all members of the delegation had been tested and the results were negative.

We have already informed the Palmeiras medical department, the player is asymptomatic, already isolated and is currently being removed from the selection.

All protective measures are taken. We’ll be running a new set of tests before our trip to Uruguay and after the game.

Brazil face Venezuela in a World Cup qualifier late on Friday and play Uruguay on Tuesday before the Premier League players fly back to England.
