Legal dispute between Saibou and Baskets Bonn continues

In the legal dispute between the Bundesliga basketball team Telekom Baskets Bonn and professional Joshiko Saibou, the Bonn Labor Court set a consultation period of one week for a settlement offer.

That was the result of a chamber meeting on Wednesday. The presiding judge has proposed to both parties to terminate the employment relationship that ran until June 30, 2021 in return for payment of nine monthly salaries. Should both parties fail to come to an agreement on this offer within a week, a date for the announcement has been set for November 25th (2:30 p.m.).

On this day, a judgment can be announced or a new date, for example for taking evidence, can be set. In addition, both sides can request an extension of the period of one week for the deliberations on the settlement offer.

At a quality meeting on August 26th of this year, Bundesliga club Bonn had originally offered four months’ salary as a comparison, which the Saibou lawyers had refused.

The Baskets had terminated the 30-year-old Saibou, who was present on Wednesday accompanied by his two lawyers, for “violating the requirements of the current employment contract as a professional athlete” after he took part in a demonstration against the state measures to contain the corona pandemic in Berlin had participated. Saibou called the dismissal a “slap in the face of freedom of expression” and filed a lawsuit.
