Kevin Durant would try to lure Serge Ibaka to Brooklyn

New name on the list of franchises where free agent Serge Ibaka could land if he does not find an agreement with the Raptors: after the Heat, the Celtics, the Mavericks, the Blazers, the Clippers and the Lakers, these are the Nets who could welcome the Congolese. In fact, Forbes reports that Kevin Durant is trying to convince his former Thunder teammate to join him in Brooklyn.

There are, however, two question marks in KD’s plan. Her franchise is one of those that will have little money to offer: she wants to invest in Joe Harris and will only have one « mid-level exception » to $ 5.7 million since the franchise ended the season in the « luxury tax ».

The other problem is the traffic jam in the racket with already DeAndre Jordan, Jarrett Allen and Nic Claxton. But one of those could pack his bags if the club mount a trade for a third star. Or for Serge Ibaka in the event of “sign-and-trade”?

Mid-level exception : envelope of 9.3 million dollars available to recruit all NBA franchises that do not pay luxury tax. They can use it on one or more players. A team that pays the luxury tax has only 5.7 million. This is the punishment for being already above the limit set for the luxury tax.

Luxury tax : in NBA, the salary cap is not strict and the NBA allows the richest franchises to exceed the set threshold with a tolerance of around 20%. In this case, next year, franchises could normally have spent up to $ 132.6 million. Then, for every dollar spent above this limit, deductibles must pay the luxury tax in the NBA. A kind of tax that can be very expensive and this sum is then donated to the franchises, good students, who have not paid the luxury tax.
