Fifa does not nominate Manuel Neuer from FC Bayern

TOrjäger Robert Lewandowski is on the shortlist for the 2020 World Footballer Award, but otherwise Champions League winner FC Bayern Munich was hardly included in the list of eleven nominated players. Only the Spaniard Thiago, who now plays for Liverpool, is still available. National goalkeeper Manuel Neuer appears only in the six-person list – among others alongside Marc-André ter Stegen (FC Barcelona) – for the choice of the world goalkeeper.

With three other players (Sadio Mané, Mohamed Salah and Virgel van Dijk), Liverpool FC has the largest contingent in the world footballer’s choice. The superstars Lionel Messi (FC Barcelona), Cristiano Ronaldo (Juventus Turin), Neymar and Kylian Mbappé (both Paris Saint-Germain) are among them. A German player is not among them. Lewandowski, the top scorer of the last Champions League and Bundesliga season, was voted Europe’s Footballer of the Year at the beginning of October and is considered a favorite.

In Jürgen Klopp (Liverpool) and Hansi Flick (FC Bayern), two German trainers were also nominated for the coach of the year. For women, Dzsenifer Marozsán from Olympique Lyon is the only German player in the preselection for world footballer. Stephan Lerch was nominated for the coaches by the German women’s champions VfL Wolfsburg.

The three finalists in the respective categories will be announced by the world association Fifa on December 11th. The award will take place on December 17th. The fans can vote on the Fifa website until December 9th. In addition, the choice of the national coach, the respective captain and a specialist journalist from the federal states also influences the decision.
