Could Sergio Ramos really leave Real Madrid for PSG?

660 games. Over 57,000 minutes wearing the Casa Blanca shirt for 60 goals and 40 assists. Here is the simplified CV of Sergio Ramos at Real Madrid since his arrival from Sevilla for 27 million in 2005.

Despite his XXL record, the captain of the last La Liga champion is not sure to keep his place next year. The reason is simple: his contract ends at the end of the season. The opportunity for some clubs to speculate, with PSG as the leader. Since the departure of Thiago Silva to Chelsea this summer, the Parisians have lacked an experienced defender to guide his partners. Who better than the new European record holder for the number of selections with his national team to take on this role?

The bomb was dropped by AS earlier this week. “PSG are positioning themselves for Ramos, the club will offer him three years of contract and a salary of 20 million euros net per year“, headlined the Spanish daily this Monday morning. According to sources reported by the newspaper, the leaders of Real are not willing to offer more than a year of contract to the 34-year-old player. A tough policy but assumed for several seasons at the Merengues. Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the only players for whom Florentino had made an exception. This is partly why a player like Pepe set sail in 2017. To replace him, the leaders would consider a certain David Alaba , also free from any contract in June 2021 at Bayern Munich.

Another reason given to explain a future departure: the tumultuous relationship that the defender has with Florentino Perez. For several seasons, the leader and the captain have lived through ups and downs. In addition, Real Madrid’s finances are not in good shape. Because of the Covid, there would be a shortfall of almost 200 million euros in the coffers over the current season. With emoluments estimated at 13 million euros net, Sergio Ramos is the second highest salary of the workforce behind Eden Hazard (15ME). One thing is certain, the Madrilenians could not match the same offer as announced in the newspaper AS. If, of course, this offer should happen.

Because at this stage, this transfer is still only speculation. For some, it is neither more nor less a pressure coup from Camp Sergio Ramos to scare the Merengue leaders. The aim would be to raise the stakes with this alleged contract proposal. This is particularly the case of the Parisian who believes that “this transfer is based on sand.” Same story on RMC Sport which announces that “it is totally false” via an internal source of the club.
