Celtic die-hard Rod Stewart claims that no manager will touch a job with a “barge pole” if Neil Lennon is fired

Heartbroken Sir Rod Stewart believes that if Neil Lennon is cut, no manager worth his salt will get anywhere near the job of “barge pole” Celtic manageriality.

The legendary pop singer admits he’s never been as down as he was on Monday after seeing his squad leave the Betfred Cup.

But Sir Rod admits his real fear is watching the wild scenes that followed the 2-0 loss to Ross County as fans headed for Parkhead to focus on Lennon and the board to let in.

Speaking to talkSPORT: “I’m heartbroken and disgusted.

“In all the years I’ve supported the Celts, I’ve never seen anything like it. Rockets are thrown at the players. It’s shameful that the club look so irresponsible.

“It’s a proud old club and I’m not only broken with yesterday’s result, but completely broken.”

And Stewart insists he would stick with the 49-year-old because he doesn’t think the team he loves could find a cash replacement given the current situation on the field.

He added, “Unless it is someone’s turn to take Lenny’s place, probably no one would take it with a barge pole, I really wouldn’t.”

“Taking over Celtic halfway through the season, 11 points behind Rangers, will require a tough man.

“I would let Lenny finish the season, I still think he can turn it around. More players need to come in.

“But I’m shocked, shocked, shocked.

“I don’t think there’s anyone out there who can take his place. I don’t think the Bournemouth guy would touch it, I really don’t.”
